§ Mr. AncramThe Scottish Development Department has issued guidance to local authorities, in part 7 of the Scottish Housing Handbook, on design standards for hostels and other forms of housing for single people; and the 12.5 per cent. increase which we have authorised in capital investment on the housing revenue account block for 1987–88 will enable authorities which have this as a problem to do more for single people. I hope that local authorities will also look to the contribution which other providers in their areas, such as housing associations, can make to meeting the needs of single people.
