§ Mr. Douglas HoggAs my right hon. Friend stated on 20 May 1986 in reply to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Westminster, North (Mr. Wheeler) at columns124–25, following a review by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary of the manpower needs of provincial forces, the aim is to approve total increases in their establishments of the order of 2,000 posts over the next few years. We shall shortly be considering applications from police authorities for increases in the financial year 1987–88.
