HC Deb 04 February 1987 vol 109 c677W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales when his Department expects to publish (a) the revised version of the booklet "Languages at Work" including information on the vocational value of Welsh language qualifications; and (b) Defnyddio'ch Cymraeg; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The "Languages at Work" booklet is published jointly by the Department of Education and Science and the Welsh Office. The present edition was produced in 1983–84 and the revised version is due to be published later this year. The booklet is distributed throughout England and Wales. It is not intended that the revised booklet should include information about the use of Welsh in work situations. However, the Department is preparing a separate publication giving information about the Welsh-medium further and higher education courses which are available and about the types of employment where a knowledge of the Welsh language is considered to be either essential or an advantage. Preparation of the booklet "Defnyddio'ch Cymraeg" is well advanced and it is hoped to publish it within the next few months.
