HC Deb 04 February 1987 vol 109 cc681-2W
Dr. Blackburn

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the date of the next meeting of committee E of the police negotiating board.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

This is a matter for the board's independent secretariat. I understand, however, that the next meeting is scheduled for 27 May.

Dr. Blackburn

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the change in the number of police preserved rate widows since 25 February 1986.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The information is not held centrally and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

Dr. Blackburn

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the cases in which he has failed to implement agreed negotiated decisions of committee E of the police negotiating board.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

This has happened once: in the case of the recent recommended increase in the pensions payable to the widows of police officers who retired before 1 April 1956.

Dr. Blackburn

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he last met committee E of the police negotiating board.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

No such meeting has taken place.

Dr. Blackburn

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider granting a place on committee E of the police negotiating board to the National Association of Retired Police Officers; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

No. The Edmund-Davies committee considered carefully, and rejected, the case for the national association to be represented on the negotiating body. We agree with the committee's conclusion.
