HC Deb 04 February 1987 vol 109 c680W
Mr. Dubs

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons currently serving custodial sentences are under threat of deportation; how many are classified in category D; and how many of these are in open prisons.

Mr. Mellor

I regret that this information is not available in the form requested, but during 1986 the courts recommended 494 persons for deportation together with a custodial sentence. A further 135 persons were notified of an intention to deport them under section 3(5)(b) of the Immigration Act 1971, which deals with deportation in the public interest. The majority of these would have been serving a custodial sentence at the time.
