HC Deb 02 February 1987 vol 109 c547W
Mrs. Renee Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what advice he is giving to doctors in relation to the screening of organ donors.

Mrs. Currie

In October 1985, at the Department's request, the United Kingdom transplant service advised all surgeons and physicians known to be concerned with renal, heart, liver and corneal transplantation and all laboratories who perform tissue typing for transplant recipients and donors that all donors should be tested for HTLV III antibody as they already were for hepatitits B. They also advised where this might be carried out. Separate guidance has also been issued about screening of semen and blood donors.
