To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will propose to the United Nations Security Council that a further resolution on the Iran-Iraq conflict be considered which specifies the origin of the current conflict; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

Security Council resolution 598 includes a call for the establishment of an impartial body to inquire into responsibility for the conflict. This is one of the elements of the resolution currently under discussion. It would not be wise to pre-empt the outcome of that discussion.
