HC Deb 14 December 1987 vol 124 cc359-60W
Sir John Biggs-Davison

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, with regard to the capture of arms in the 'Eksund', what information Her Majesty's Government have received from the Government of the Republic of Ireland about the several previous illegal shipment of arms, announced by the Irish Minister of Justice; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

We are naturally in close touch with the Irish authorities. We have a full exchange of views and information, but cannot go into detail about these confidential contacts.

We welcome the recent statement made by the Irish Justice Minister reporting in the search so far and indicating that they will continue to take vigorous action in their hunt for illegal arms.
