To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many men and how many women, respectively, have been charged with stealing from shops during each of the past 10 years for which records are available; how many and what percentage of such persons have pleaded guilty and not guilty, respectively; how many and what percentage have been found guilty; and how many and what percentage of the trials of such persons who have been found guilty and not guilty, respectively, were before magistrates courts and on indictment, respectively.

These remaining supplies, which serve small remote rural areas, will take a little longer to improve. My Department is pursuing, in discussions with all the water authorities concerned, the aim of reducing lead concentrations to the directive's requirements by the end of 1989 or soon thereafter.
