HC Deb 04 December 1987 vol 123 c734W
Mr. Cummings

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many service men and women have joined Her Majesty's forces from the Easington constituency in the last three years.

Mr. Freeman

Details of the numbers of entrants to Her Majesty's forces are not maintained on the basis of addresses of domicile within parliamentary constituencies. It is therefore assumed that entrants to the services from the Easington constituency would form part of the recruitment through the Royal Navy careers information offices at Hartlepool and Sunderland, Army careers information offices at Darlington, Durham, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Sunderland and Royal Air Force careers information offices at Darlington, Middlesbrough and Sunderland. The total numbers for these offices in the last three financial years are as follows:

Numbers
1984–85 1,200
1985–86 1,227
1986–87 1,249

These numbers exclude all officer entrants, Army-rejoined reservists and, prior to 1986–87, service women entrants to the Queen Alexandra's royal naval nursing service, all of whom are recruited centrally.
