To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the average time taken by the Passport Office to (i) issue and (ii) renew passports.

Mr. Renton

The time taken to deal with passport applications varies from office to office. Current delay times for non-urgent applications of all types at each of the regional offices are as follows:

Working days
London 36
Peterborough 15
Newport 10
Glasgow 8
Liverpool 6
Belfast 2

Urgent applications are given priority; all others are dealt with in date of receipt order, irrespective of the type of application.
