To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many patients were registered with general practitioners for National Health Service contraceptive services in 1986 in Northern Ireland.

Patients are not required to register for particular services provided by their general practitioner.

Mr. Steel

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many general practitioners are registered to provide a National Health Service family planning service to their patients in Northern Ireland; and how many premises are involved.

Mr. Needham

At 31 December 1986, 866 general practitioners were registered to provide contraceptive services to their patients in Northern Ireland.

The information regarding the number of premises is not readily available and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost.
