To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proposals he is considering for student financial support.

Mr. Jackson

The Government are conducting a general review of arrangements for the financial support of undergraduates in Great Britain. The review's terms of reference require it to have regard to sources of support which would allow the removal of students from the social security system, including the case for a system involving loans as well as grants, and the contribution of sponsorship.
