To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the average number of O-level passes in the upper grades achieved by pupils in the fifth years of grammar schools, independent schools and comprehensive schools, respectively, in the most recent current period for which figures are available.

Information on the examination achievements in the fifth year is not available, but that for school leavers is shown in the following table:
