HC Deb 01 December 1987 vol 123 cc506-7W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many patients released from Rampton hospital since 1979 have committed crimes of violence and have been returned to safe custody; and what is the total number released for each year since 1979.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The only information readily available is that during the period 1971–80 there were 77 restricted patients conditionally discharged from Rampton hospital. Of these, four were convicted within five years of their discharge of a further serious offence and given a prison sentence. None were given a further hospital order (with or without restrictions). Information on the number of restricted patients released from Rampton hospital is as follows:

1979 1980 1981 1982 1983 1984 1985 1986
Other discharge into the community 1 1
Total 11 14 17 3 10 18 11 15
