§ Mr. Barry FieldTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what duty the proposed National Rivers Authority will have to consult sea fisheries committees so far as pollution is concerned.
§ Mr. MoynihanCurrently, a sea fisheries committee is consulted by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when, in accordance with the provisions of the Control of Pollution Act, he is notified by a water authority of an application for consent to discharge effluent which might bear on the interests of that committee. The only change which will result from the creation of the National Rivers Authority is that the NRA instead of the water authorities will notify the Minister, who will then, as now, consult the committees affected.
