HL Deb 29 April 1987 vol 486 cc1597-8WA
Baroness Burton of Coventry

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, arising from their Written Answer to her on 23rd February (H.L. Debs, Col. 183), they can now state whether the High Court in Dublin has given judgment on the appeal case concerning ratification of the Single European Act by member states of the European Community and, if not, when such judgment may be expected.

Baroness Young

On 9th April the Irish Supreme Court ruled that Title III of the Single European Act, which concerns political co-operation, would be inconsistent with the Irish Constitution. The Irish Government will hold a referendum on 26th May on a proposed amendment to the Constitution to enable them to ratify the Single European Act.
