HC Deb 23 April 1987 vol 114 c693W
22. Mr. Freud

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on his Department's most recent consultations on measures to contain rhizomania in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Donald Thompson

My officials held a very useful meeting on 6 April with representatives of trade and producer organisations about my proposal for statutory controls on the disposal to land of waste from the processing of imported potatoes and other vegetables. The possible reduction of the soil tolerance allowed on imported potatoes was also discussed. Further meetings are being arranged with representatives of some of the individual sectors concerned. I look forward to a positive outcome of these discussions.
