HC Deb 23 April 1987 vol 114 c684W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to his answer of 18 February, Official Report, columns 627–28, what further progress has been made in setting a date for the establishment of a search and rescue helicopter in north-west Scotland.

Mr. Moore

My Department has today placed a contract with Bristow Helicopters Ltd. for the provision of a search and rescue helicopter to be based at Stornoway. The helicopter will be a Sikorsky S61N Mk II aircraft, the civil equivalent of the military Westland Sea King. It is expected to be on station at Stornoway in early May.
