asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assessment he has made of the potential effect of the Immigration (Carriers' Liability) Bill on the number of immigration officers to be stationed at British ports.

We have no plans to change the number of immigration officers available at British ports as a result of the Bill.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received from the European Commission on the implications of the Immigration (Carriers' Liability) Bill for Her Majesty's Government's obligations under the EEC treaties.
