HL Deb 07 April 1987 vol 486 cc1019-20WA
Baroness Jeger

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What decision they have taken on the future of Heveningham Hall, Suffolk, to preserve and restore the building and gardens and ensure public access.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Skelmersdale)

My right honourable friend shares the current concern about Heveningham Hall, which I am sure has not been lost on its owner, but is still hopeful that a negotiated solution can be achieved. The Chairman of the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission will be meeting the owner on 29th April, and arrangements are being made for officials of the commission to visit the house in order to assess the work that remains to be done.
