Different measures will be needed to deal with different types of offences. The Government's broad strategy and some of the specific measures were are taking are set out in "Criminal Justice: A Working Paper", which was published in November.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what expenditure is planned by his Department for the year 1987–88 on crime prevention work.

In addition to expenditure on the police, we plan expenditure of some £6.1 million in 1987–88 on crime prevention publicity, the crime prevention centre and supporting five local demonstration projects.
