HL Deb 01 April 1987 vol 486 cc683-4WA
Lord Brockway

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the present estimated population of Great Britain; what is the estimated total non-white population; how many of these were born outside Great Britain; and how many of them are estimated to be illegal immigrants.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health and Social Security (Baroness Trumpington)

The most recent figures apply to mid-1985. At that time the estimated population of Great Britain was 55.1 million; the estimated total ethnic minority (non-white) population was 2.4 million and of these an estimated 1.3 million were born outside Great Britain. No information is available about the number of illegal immigrants in Great Britain.
