§ 68. Mr. Tom Coxasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the present position in Cyprus.
§ Mr. EggarThe United Nations Secretary General is continuing his efforts with the parties to find a peaceful, just and lasting settlement in Cyprus. We strongly support his initiative, which we believe offers by far the best prospect of achieving such a settlement. We continue to urge all the parties to co-operate with him, and to refrain from any action which might make his task more difficult.
§ 72. Mr. Wareingasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what plans he has to seek to ensure that a solution can be reached to the problem of Cyprus, including the withdrawal of Turkish military forces from that country.
§ Mr. EggarThe United Nations Secretary General continues in his efforts to bring the two sides together. We strongly support his initiative and are ready to do whatever we can to help. Withdrawal of foreign troops from the Republic of Cyprus will have to form part of a comprehensive settlement.
