HL Deb 09 October 1986 vol 480 c466WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the import of uranium from Namibia is illegal and whether any has been imported and how much and by whom; and for what purposes it has been used.

Baroness Young

Imports of uranium from Namibia ceased when the CEGB contract ended in 1984. There are no mandatory United Nations Security Council resolutions prohibiting trade with Namibia, including the import of uranium, and it is our view that such trade is a matter for commercial decision.
