Mr. Clelland

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what additional staff have been recruited to date to posts in Dhaka, Islamabad and Delhi to process visa applications.

Mr. Eggar

The answer is: in Dhaka, four entry clearance officers and 11 locally-engaged support staff; in Islamabad, one second second secretary, four entry clearance officers, and 12 locally-engaged support staff; in New Delhi, one second secretary, three entry clearance officers and nine locally-engaged support staff.

Mr. Sayeed

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the current waiting period for visit visas from applicants in the Indian subcontinent.

Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the health authorities in Wales for which statutory auditors have issued reports of poor control over private in-patient care since his answer of 25 November 1985, Official Report, column 461.

Mr. Eggar

Over 95 per cent. of personal applicants are at present dealt with on the day of application. Those requiring more than a cursory interview may have to wait up to a maximum of 12 days (New Delhi). There is no backlog of postal applications at any post.
