HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 cc30-1W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales when he last met members of the National Union of Students on the subject of financial support for Welsh students; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The Secretary of State has not recently met representatives of the NUS to discuss financial support for Welsh students. Welsh Office officials, however, have met student representatives on various occasions in the last two years to receive representations about the level of student awards.

Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received in the last six months on the subject of student financial support in Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

I have received 24 letters in the last six months about various aspects of student financial support. The majority of these cases concerned students who had been unsuccessful in seeking discretionary awards from their local education authority.
