§ Mr. Sternasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will detail the role that will be played by his Department in ensuring that the research into the Severn barrage is directed towards safeguarding all aspects of the environment of the Severn estuary.
§ Mr. WaldegraveOfficials of my Department are in consultation with officials from the Department of Energy with the aim of ensuring that the total package of research into the Severn barrage includes an adequate examination of the regional and environmental aspects before any decision to construct a barrage is taken.
