HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 cc43-4W
Mr. Allen McKay

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment which local Government services he proposes should be privatised; and if it is his intention, in the forthcoming legislation on this subject, to take enabling powers or to specify such services in the Bill itself.

Dr. Boyson

We have no plans for privatisation; only for the exposure of services to competition for the benefit of the ratepayer. We intend to include an initial list of services on the face of a Bill, with provision for adding others in secondary legislation. Final decisions on the initial list have not been taken, but it will include refuse collection, street cleansing, building cleaning, vehicle maintenance, ground maintenance and catering.
