HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c13W
28. Dr. Twinn

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on progress made so far during energy efficiency year.

Mr. David Hunt

Energy Efficiency Year continues to make a strong impact. Some 1,300 events have already taken place supporting and promoting our initiatives in every sector of the community.

In Industry and commerce, the Energy Efficiency Office's schemes and programmes are now leading to savings worth over £500 million a year. Around 7,500 energy efficiency surveys under our survey scheme have identified savings worth £250 million. Two hundred and fifty projects under our energy efficiency demonstration scheme have stimulated savings worth more than £120 million a year. Monitoring and targeting systems have been completed in 15 sectors and are being implemented at some 200 major energy-using sites. Every £1 spent on M & T by Government is identifying savings of over £40 a year; 313 voluntary insulation projects have been established and over 200,000 homes insulated, creating some 5.000 job opportunities.
