HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c13W
29. Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will estimate the amount of money saved in 1985 by local authorities and industry adopting energy conservation policies; how this will compare with the projected figures for 1986; and if he will make a statement.

50. Mr. William Powell

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is his estimate of the aggregate annual savings generated by energy efficiency schemes undertaken by industry and commerce; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Hunt

It is estimated that energy efficiency measures undertaken by industry and commerce are currently leading to savings of over £500 million a year. A comparable figure is not available for local authorities. However, they have responded positively to the Audit Commission report of 1985, which identified savings of at least £135 million a year for local authorities in England and Wales.
