HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 cc10-1W
11. Mr. McLoughlin

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will give the most recent figures for coal production in the coal industry; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. David Hunt

Current output in the coal industry has been maintained at broadly the same level as in 1985, with output per man shift reaching 3.55 tons in the week ending 1 November 1986 compared with 2.87 tons in the same week last year.

13. Mr. Neil Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on the latest productivity figures in the coal industry.

Mr. David Hunt

For the week ending 1 November average output per man shift was 3.55 tonnes. This is the sixth time the record has been broken in seven weeks and demonstrates the excellent team work by management and mineworkers throughout the coalfields. This is good news for British Coal and its customers.

24. Mr. Gerald Howarth

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what are the latest productivity figures for each area of British Coal.

Mr. David Hunt

British Coal's average deep-mined revenue output per man shift for the week ending 1 November was as follows:

Tonnes
Scotland 2.44
North East 3.01
North Yorkshire 4.66
South Yorkshire 3.68
North Derbyshire 4.38
Nottingham 3.51
South Midlands 3.18
Kent 2.97
Western 3.68
South Wales 2.68

The figures for north Yorkshire, north Derbyshire, Kent and western areas represent weekly productivity records.
