HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c93W
Mr. O'Neill

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list all recommendations of the Chiswick report on Glenochil young offenders' institution and detention centre, indicating what action has been taken to meet them.

Mr. Lang

In his statement to the House on 24 July 1985 my right hon. Friend the Member for Ayr (Mr. Younger) indicated the Government's response to the recommendations of the Chiswick report and to the findings of fatal accident inquiries into two deaths which occurred in 1985. Of the report's 63 recommendations 13 were rejected, while the remaining 50 were accepted or remitted for further study.

Considerable progress has been made in implementing those recommendations which the Government accepted. I am now reviewing all aspects of follow-up to the Chiswick report and to the fatal accident inquiries and I shall write to the hon. Gentleman before long.
