HL Deb 20 November 1986 vol 482 c430WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the chemical weapons to which the Prime Minister referred on 30th October in another place (Hansard, col. 449).

Lord Trefgarne

My right honourable friend the Prime Minister was referring to the need for arms control negotiations to address the problem of the imbalance between NATO and the Warsaw Pact in conventional and chemical weapons, as well as that in nuclear forces. The United Kingdom gave up its chemical weapons capability in the late 1950s, and no change to that policy is now proposed.
