HC Deb 06 November 1986 vol 103 c571W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what assessment he has made as to the suitability of Dundee college of education as the site of the proposed European college of education; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John MacKay

The European Parliament's Committee on Youth, Culture, Education, Information and Sport is considering in principle whether a European Community college of education should be established. When and if a definite set of proposals is submitted for consideration by the member states of the Community, I should wish to see Scotland's claims as a suitable location being seriously considered. Dundee college of education has modern facilities which are not at present fully utilised, but that situation may change in the light of the decisions to merge Aberdeen and Dundee colleges of education and to dispose of surplus accommodation throughout the college of education sector as a whole which were announced by my right hon. and learned Friend in his statement on 17 July 1986 at column 1187.
