HC Deb 06 November 1986 vol 103 c571W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, in view of the representations which he has received opposing the proposed merger of Dundee and Aberdeen colleges of education, he will now abandon the proposals.

Mr. John MacKay

No. I welcome the general line of the interim report of the working party set up to consider how the merger should be implemented. That report has shown that a cost-effective institution can be established which will make an important contribution to Scottish education. I hope that all parties concerned will adopt a constructive approach in the interests of the new college.
