HC Deb 06 November 1986 vol 103 cc483-4W
Mr. Beith

asked the Secretary of State for Transport why the northbound carriageway of the A1 from Felton to Deanmoor remained closed by cones on the afternoon of Friday 31 October when the carriageway was entirely unobstructed by maintenance works or vehicles.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The carriageway remained closed on 31 October to allow the reinstatement of cats eyes and white lining, which was essential before the carriageway could be safely reopened to traffic. These works were required following the resurfacing of the carriageway. The northbound carriageway is now open. The whole contract is expected to be completed about one month ahead of schedule.
