§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how long the Royal Herbert hospital, Woolwich, hs been empty; what is the annual cost of maintaining the buildings; and what uses have been, or arc likely to be, considered for the site.
§ Mrs. CurrieThe Royal Herbert hospital at Woolwich is the responsibility of the South East Thames regional health authority, which is awaiting the result of an application for listed building consent for demolition. If successful, the planning permission already given for development will be put into action for disposal of the site. If consent is not obtained then alternative uses would have to be considered.
I am informed that the hospital closed down at the end of 1979. £22,000 per year is spent on security and a minimal sum on maintenance.
