HC Deb 04 November 1986 vol 103 c427W
28. Mr. Nicholas Baker

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he plans to change present Royal Air Force policy so as to allow female members of the Royal Air Force to fly aeroplanes.

Mr. Freeman

Women have been eligible for some time to fly as air loadmasters in the RAF. Girls were also given the opportunity to fly following the 1985 reorganisation of the university air squadrons. We have no plans, however, to change our present policy and employ female members of the RAF as pilots or navigators.
