asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the recent visit to Hong Kong by the Minister of State, the right hon. Member for Tonbridge and Mailing (Mr. Stanley).

Mr. Stanley

I visited Hong Kong from 27 to 29 August 1986. The main purpose of my visit was to see and talk to personnel from all three services in the Hong Kong garrison, and to have discussions with the Commander British Forces and members of the Hong Kong Government.

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if the Minister of State, the right hon. Member for Tonbridge and Mailing (Mr. Stanley), met members of the Gurkha Regiment on his recent visit to Hong Kong.

Yes. I had the pleasure of visiting the 6th Queen Elizabeth's Own Gurkha Rifles, the 1st and 2nd Battalions 7th Duke of Edinburgh's Own Gurkha Rifles, and the 10th Princess Mary's Own Gurkha Rifles, and I also met members of the Queen's Gurkha Signals and the Queen's Gurkha Engineers.
