§ Mr. Butterfillasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has conducted an analysis of the total security costs relating to the 1986 Conservative party conference in Bournemouth; what proportion of this will be borne by Her Majesty's Government; and whether he has any proposals to change the basis on which the costs of security at the major party conferences are funded.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggWe have not conducted such an analysis. 51 per cent. of expenditure incurred by the Dorset police authority on the policing of the conference will be met by the Home Office through police grant in the usual way. Block grant from the Department of the Environment makes a further contribution to the costs. There are no plans to make any special arrangements for the funding of such costs. Certain expenditure incurred by the Conservative party on security at the conference may394W qualify for reimbursement from central funds under the scheme announced by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister in her reply to a question by my right hon and learned Friend the Member for Southport (Sir I. Percival) on 25 July.
