HC Deb 03 November 1986 vol 103 c303W
62. Mr. Ashdown

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what proportion of overseas aid is allocated to sub-Saharan African nations.

Mr. Chris Patten

In 1985 an estimated total of £510 million was spent in sub-Saharan Africa through both multilateral and bilateral channels. This represented 40 per cent. of total aid expenditure.

64. Mr. Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on co-ordination with other countries to help sub-Saharan African countries with their agricultural development programmes.

Mr. Chris Patten

We fully support the efforts being made by multilateral development organisations, by other bilateral donors, and by sub-Saharan African countries themselves to co-ordinate more effectively the assistance provided for agricultural development programmes.
