§ Mr. Allan Stewartasked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what plans he has to establish city technology colleges in Scotland; and if he will make a statement;
(2) how many city technology centres he proposes to establish in Scotland;
(3) whether he is considering any locations within the area of Eastwood, Renfrew and Glasgow district councils for the establishment of city technology colleges; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. John MacKayI believe that provision of broad but soundly based technological and vocational education for young people can be effectively pursued in Scotland through the technical and vocational education initiative. There are no plans at present to supplement the initiative by establishing centres specialising in technology, but we shall keep under review the need for and opportunities of doing so.
