HC Deb 22 May 1986 vol 98 cc280-1W
Mr. Strang

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will outline the work being undertaken by his officials in connection with river quality surveys announced by the Department of the Environment in 1985, and the financial resources and manpower which are being devoted to this project.

Mr. Ancram

In parallel with similar work in England and Wales, my officials are collecting information from the seven river purification boards in Scotland on the quality of rivers and estuaries in their areas. Later this year we will publish the fourth report since 1968 in the Scottish series of river quality surveys. A sum of £40,000, including manpower of one man-year, has been allocated to the project.
