HC Deb 12 May 1986 vol 97 c333W
Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how much time in days has been devoted to the Sizewell B inquiry to date.

Mr. Goodlad

The inquiry sat for 340 days between 11 January 1983 and 7 March 1985. Since it closed the inspector has been assessing the evidence and preparing his report. As my right hon. Friend announced on 13 March, at column555, the inspector has told him that he hopes to deliver the report in September.

Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what has been the total cost to public funds to date of the Sizewell B inquiry; and if he will provide a breakdown of the costs.

Mr. Goodlad

Costs up to 31 March 1986 falling to my Department were some £890,000. Other costs incurred to the same date in running the inquiry and recoverable from the CEGB by agreement with the board total approximately £2,299,000. Costs incurred by parties to the inquiry, including the CEGB's own costs, are a matter for them and are not included in this total.
