HC Deb 27 March 1986 vol 94 c557W
Mr. Best

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what projects his Department supports to assist disadvantaged persons (a) in South Africa and (b) who have left South Africa as refugees.

Mr. Raison

Disadvantaged groups within South Africa benefit from scholarships for study in the United Kingdom and from our support (expert advice, books and equipment) for several non-formal education projects in the Republic. We expect to spend about £1 million on these activities in the coming financial year. Our support for South African refugees is channelled through the United Nations Educational Training Programme for Southern Africa and the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation which undertake various training and educational activities.
