HC Deb 27 March 1986 vol 94 cc556-7W
Mr. Meadowcroft

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list those projects in the middle east which receive funding from his Department; and which of the projects cater for Palestinians.

Mr. Raison

Details of the British bilateral aid programme in the middle east are provided in "British Aid Statistics" which is available in the Library of the House. Information in more detail could be provided only at disproportionate cost. We also contribute to projects in the middle east being undertaken by British voluntary agencies, the European Community, the World Bank and United Nations agencies.

Aid is given to Palestinians mainly through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees in the near east (UNRWA). We also give assistance, mainly through British voluntary agencies, for projects in the occupied West Bank and Gaza. The European Community also contributes to UNRWA and has a programme of projects for the West Bank and Gaza, as do certain United Nations agencies.
