HC Deb 27 March 1986 vol 94 cc572-3W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing the funding of education for nurse teachers in each of the last five years.

Mr. Hayhoe

The funding of education for nurse teachers over the last five years has been:

£ million
1981–82 3.8
1982–83 4.1
1983–84 4.2
1984–85 4.0
1985–86* 3.7
* provisional

These figures cover the cost of training qualified nurses to become teachers and a small proportion is for any further training, funded through the English national board, for those nurses who are already qualified teachers. It is not possible readily to identify the equivalent cost for district nurses from those for midwives and health visitors.
