HC Deb 27 March 1986 vol 94 c613W
Mr. Frank Field

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he intends to take to promote an effective standard for draughtproofing in the United Kingdom; and what bodies he is consulting about this.

Sir George Young

A comprehensive draughtproofing standard would need to cover both new and replacement windows and doors, as well as the draughtproofing of existing windows and doors. Many new replacement windows and some doors are draughtproofed in the factory, and for windows such work is already covered by a series of British Standards. The draughtproofing of existing windows and doors is not yet covered by standards. Officials met the Draughtproofing Advisory Association last December to discuss the results of research carried out by the Building Research Establishment in draughtproofing materials and performance with a view to developing standards for materials.
