HC Deb 27 March 1986 vol 94 c565W
Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how much was spent (a) by local authorities and (b) by his Department on cycle facilities during the financial year 1984–85 and how much is planned to be spent (i) by local authorities and (ii) by his Department on cycle facilities during the financial year 1985–86 and the financial year 1986–87.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Figures are not collected centrally on the amounts spent by local authorities on cycle facilities or on the Department's continuing expenditure on cycle elements in its trunk road improvement schemes. The Department spent £126,000 and £160,000 in the past two years and plans to spend a further £160,000 in the coming year on a special programme of experimental cycling facilities of various kinds to test and develop good design solutions for general use.
